Lake Park Little League 2016 Instructional Minor Rules

1. A maximum of 2 defensive fielding coaches may take positions anywhere on the field.

2. Players may take one base on an overthrow. A second overthrow does not award an additional base. TEACH them the correct way to play, don’t automatically take 2nd base on an over-throw to 1st.

3. Coach pitch in game only – no machine pitch in games.  A 5 pitch maximum still in place, with 3 swinging strikes for an out.  It is suggested that each team find a coach/parent who can consistently throw/toss across the plate – preferably from one knee and 25 to 35 feet away – intent is to teach players how to pick up the ball out of the hand on a level plane and not out of a machine.

4. Batters will be allowed 5 pitches for each at bat. A foul on the 5th pitch is an out. Use your judgment on a 5th pitch that comes out unhittable..

5. Each inning will consist of 3 outs or 4 runs scored whichever occurs first. Game must end within 90 minute time limit. Do not start the top of a new inning after 75 minutes.

6. A player may, at their own risk, take an additional base on any ball hit to the outfield. Again, teach the kids, DON’T just try to run around the bases.

7. All players will be allowed to defense. Extra players must be equally spaced in the outfield and infield players will remain in the traditional positions.

8. Teams must field a catcher. One person can be behind the umpire to retrieve balls.

9. Instructional minors will have one scheduled game and one scheduled practice per week. Additional practices are encouraged, but at the discretion of the coach.

10. We will utilize a standard little league baseball for play.

11. Home team will get 2 new balls from the concession stand prior to the game.

12. Home team is listed on the schedule.

13. Home teams gets the field ready for play. DO NOT create a batter’s box, DO NOT use 4” foul lines and makes sure pitching machine is ready. Visitors rake the field when the game is complete. Try to keep the sand off the grass, fill in spots around the plate, by the bases, and by the pitcher’s mound.

14. Once the game begins coaches may not change their batting order. All players are allowed to bat in a continuous order. Players arriving late are place at the bottom of the order.
